Thanks for the inspiration Gordon. I am using a 12V to 5V regulator from Amazon ($5), a Raspberry Pi 2, usb wifi and AD2USB. I am hoping to build a custom python app to log all events and email/txt me for specific events. I figure that the VISTA10SE can supply enough current to recharge the battery, that should be more than ample to power the RPI 2, usb wifi and AD2USB. I am at 3 days up time with no problems ssh-ing into it to do the development.

I am fine with the loss in battery life when main power is cut.

Glad to hear its working for you, “venture1981.” Of course its not as reliable as an Ethernet connection but its been working well here, with the script to restart the WiFi link when it goes down. Apparently the loss of connection via WiFi is a pretty common thing with the RasPi (and not related to the AlarmDecoder stuff), so you should see if that happens with your system also.

Just as an FYI, our open source WebApp (https://github.com/nutechsoftware/alarmdecoder-webapp) has this functionality built in
Not an employee of the company. Just here to help and keep things clean.
