Vista 20p with a AD2USB, I can't get anywhere with it

Hello all,

I have never installed a security system before, just a heads up.

I have a Vista 20p alarm panel, a 6150RF keypad, a 5828RF wireless keypad, 15 wireless entryway transmitters and a AD2USB adapter for use with my Vera Lite. All is wired up on my dining room table to my wife's dismay. I wanted to bench test/program it before I installed it.

I know that I cannot use either of my keypads to program it since they are not alpha numeric but I've read that I can sue the Virtual keypad and the AD2USB to program it, which is what I am trying to do.

I know I have connection because I have a readout and sending custom commands seems to work.

I can't do anything else. None of the keys on the virtual keypad. Does anyone have any advice on where to go from here?

I've searched and searched and searched and I haven't really found anything related to my issue.

To make the AD2USB the default alpha keypad on your panel, it will need to be set to address 16 - go into the device configuration and change the address to 16 and you should be good to go!

Thank you!

I did that, and I'm still getting the ***DISARMED** FIRE TROUBLE 01 screen, and now it also cycles through FAULT 01 through 08.

I forgot to mention that my 6150RF keypad doesn't do a whole lot when I power on the system. Ad, 31, and 00 flash and then the screen just goes blank, but the keys are still lit.

Where do I go from here? I still don't seem to be able to control the alarm with the virtual keypad.

I apologize if these are redundant questions, I've done what research I can and still can't figure this out.

Thanks in advance for all help!

For the time being until you get your panel figured out, you can try bypassing each zone that is faulted and to clear the fire alert you have to disarm twice in a row

You are completely sure it's a vista 20p?

100% that it's a 20p.

I've figured out some more things on my own. After watching some videos, I learned that I have to authorze addresses for the keypads. I put my 6150Rf on 16, my 5828 on 17 and the Virtual Keypad on 18. I'm now able to get into programming from my 6150RF, but as we all know, that's useless anyways. I still cant get the AlarmDecoder keypad to work. How do I get into prgramming from the virtual keypad? I know it's working, as it is reporting the same codes and zone faults as the other two keypads.

Just by coincidence, a good friend of mine happens to have a programmers keypad for Ademco alarms, but he's not able to get it to me until next week, so I'd love to figure out how to do it from the virtual keypad.

There's 2 ways to get into programming mode. Send the following keypresses: <installer code> then 800 OR
Unplug the panel including battery, plug it back in and on another keypad press the * and # keys at the same time within I think 50 seconds of booting the panel.

If you can't get keypresses to send through the Virtual Keypad, please check your wiring and device address - making sure that the address the ad2usb is on is enabled in the panel. I am unsure as to why you weren't able to control the alarm with the ad2usb set at address 16 as that address is always enabled by default.

A quick test to see if the ad2usb is indeed communicating with your panel correctly is to quickly arm or disarm the panel and/or bypass a zone... to bypass a zone you would enter <user code> then 6 then the zone number such as 22

One of the issues I ran into when trying to program a 20p from the virtual keypad was that by default it was receiving messages from all keypads and would not show me the feedback I needed to program. Did you try doing a keypad mask in the AD2USB setup so that it only recives messages intended for it's address?
