Do I have a VISTA-10SE or a Vista-50p system?

Postby pclausen » Tue Jun 20, 2017 1:12 am

Hi,

Newbie here looking to see if my circa 1997 alarm system is compatible. I'm a little confused as I see stickers for both VISTA-10SE as well as Vista-50p.

Here's a shot of the main circuit board:

It is hard to tell, but that white sticker on the metal shield says Vista-50p and the Manufacturing Code is 3475. For some reason this forum chopped my original 1280x960 image down to 640x480, so I had to re-scale it and re-upload.

At any rate, when I look at the sticker inside the cabinet door, it shows VISTA-10SE as seen here:

Here's a view of the whole cabinet:

That 2nd smaller circuit board is some sort of voice module. Here's the sticker inside the front cover:

I don't have a landline phone these days, so does that mean I should just get rid of the voice module as I'm assuming its only purpose was to call police/fire when there was an incident. This was an ADT installed system originally.

So is my alarm system compatible? I have the Samsung SmartThing Hub V2 and a Fiber Internet connection with plenty of spare Ethernet ports (whole house is wired with Cat6).

Assuming my system is supported, what would I need to interface it with my Hub? Just the AD2PI Network Appliance?

Thanks!

I looked around on eBay, and it definitely looks like I have the Vista 50p. My house was build in 1997 and I purchased it in 2000. So I guess the previous owner must have updated the system board from a 10SE to a 50p sometime prior to 2000? Does that sound like a reasonable explanation for why the enclosure sticker shows 10SE but the actual board is a 50p?

I don't have an active subscription with ADT, nor do I intend to. Part of my motivation for resurrecting my alarm system is to see if I can get my home owners insurance to give me the alarm discount. Last I spoke to them, they insisted that I have an active subscription with an alarm service company. But perhaps now with "home automation in the cloud" they no longer insist on that?

It is common to replace panels but keep the old enclosure as they're pretty universal. You have a 50p for sure.

As far as insurance and self-monitoring goes? Not sure - but you can get cheap monitoring with services like NextAlarm that will suffice.

Yep, you're compatible. For the easiest integration with SmartThings, the AD2Pi Network Appliance is as "plug and play" as you're gonna get.

To get rid of the voice module you'll likely have to dig out the alarm programming manual. Also, if you don't have your installer code you will have to get that too.
Not an employee of the company. Just here to help and keep things clean.
