running multiple instances of ser2sock - linux

Postby recurry » Fri May 02, 2014 1:30 pm

Hi guys,

Can you give me some hints as to how to do this? Do I need to have multiple instances of the ser2sock scripts and ser2sock.config or is there a way to integrate?

At the moment, after looking at the source, it appears I could install a second init.d ser2sock script with a different name which does not use a ser2sock.conf and specify my startup params in the init.d script. Or... modify ser2sock.c to be able to accept the config file path from the arguments list and then use a second init.d script with a different name. Either way it appears I'll need to use a seconf init.d script.

Am I on the right track or is there a better way?

Thanks for all you do!

Ron

Hey Ron,

Oops, that was an oversight on my part. I went ahead and pushed a new version up to github with a new command-line param as well as some other stuff that's been sitting in the dev branch for a while. Everything seems to work fine but let us know if you have any trouble!

You will still need to set up a second init script or figure out a way to work it into the one.

Thanks,
Scott

Hi Scott,
I made a some changes and fixed some bugs in ser2sock as well as re-wrote the init.d scripts to accommodate multiple instances as well as make them more robust. I've tested it quite extensively. I've updated the documentation and packaged it all up in a zip. Do you guys want it? How to send?

Regards

Great! Glad you got it working.

The preferred method for changes would be for you to create a pull request on github and I'll merge it in from there. Otherwise you can email the zip to ad2usb@support.nutech.com and I'll take care of it.

Thanks!

The ser2sock implimentation I did for Linux ran for several months without problems but for various reasons including ease of setup, recognition of the "BREAK" signal, etc. I've switched to ser2net which can be installed as a package on my Linux distros. Works flawlessly and much easier to setup with a few more useful options. I recommend to those using Linux to use ser2net rather than ser2sock at this point although ser2sock will probably work fine for many applications..
