AD2PI Network Appliance running dynamic DNS client?

Postby CF86336 » Wed Oct 21, 2015 4:34 am

Has anyone tried running a dynamic DNS client on the AD2PI Network Appliance, such as the one from http://www.noip.com/download?page=linux ? Since the Network Appliance runs on a Raspberry Pi platform, it seems like it should be possible.

Sure, you could run a dynamic DNS client on there just fine

We also run the avahi daemon on it for local dns lookups (alarmdecoder.local)

I think I managed to get the no-ip.com Linux client installed properly and the Raspberry Pi programmed to start it on bootup, following the instructions in the README.FIRST file that comes with the client and the instructions at http://www.stuffaboutcode.com/2012/06/r ... using.html and http://www.stuffaboutcode.com/2012/06/r ... rt-up.html . After reboot, I can see the client in the process list using ps -A. I use PuTTY with a connection type of SSH as a console for the Raspberry Pi. I feel like I've graduated Linux kindergarten and made it into 1st grade. :)

Cool, that is definitely the easiest way to remember how to access it from outside your network! At least within the network (provided you have bonjour) you can resolve it as alarmdecoder.local, which is handy.
