Can't get Windows to see AD2PI Network Appliance

Hi everyone, new user here. Just received my AD2PI Network Appliance [AD2PIBNDL], and for the life of me I can't get anything to see it. I've tried 3 different PCs, all Windows (two Vistas and an XP), multiple USB cables, front and back USB ports on each PC, etc., and nothing... no indicator that Windows is recognizing the device in any way.
Very excited to start using this with my panel and doing cool stuff.... but what am I missing?

Edit: Just to clarify, the rpi does light up with a red PWR and a green ACT, and the AD2 board has a green LED blinking about once every second, so it looks like power isn't the issue.

You should be able to plug it into your network via ethernet, it has dhcp enabled by default. You should be able to resolve it as alarmdecoder.local on your network

Thanks, Kevin. Is it possible I have a bad unit? The first few times I powered it up, the green heartbeat was there whether I was able to do anything else with it or not. Then a few times the green light would come on and stay solid, and now it doesn't come on at all. I've re-imaged a few times without anything changing.

Further troubleshooting steps I can take?

If you have an HDMI cable, you can plug the unit into a TV or Monitor that has HDMI, as well as a USB keyboard - you should be able to then watch the unit boot. If you get a login prompt, you should be able to login using the credentials in our wiki http://www.alarmdecoder.com/wiki/index.php/Raspberry_Pi

When you login, if using our image, can telnet to localhost 10000 and try and communicate with the AD2Pi

I can, and have, connected monitor, keyboard and mouse to the unit and watched the unit boot. The flashing green heartbeat flashes up until just before getting to the login prompt, then it goes dark and stays dark. I can login as pi and startx and work in the GUI, and I can telnet to the device on 10000 from elsewhere on the network. I have not tried telnetting to localhost from the device itself. I will do that as soon as I have the opportunity, and will report back here.

If you are able to telnet to the ser2sock port, try sending a '=' or a '!' key to see if the AD2Pi responds to commands or outputs anything while connected.

Kevin - First off, thanks again for your help.

I flashed a fresh image just for fun, and then booted the AD2 and RPi back up. The boot process continues as I would expect it to, and then, just about the time it is instantiating ser2sock, the green flashing LED stops flashing. Boot continues to the login prompt, I login with the default pi userID and password, then telnet localhost 10000 and get the ser2sock prompt. Hitting ! and = results in nothing.

Anything else I can try?

Just wanted to update the forum that there was no hardware problem at all causing this issue, but a possible bug in my setup and newer firmware, uncovered by a masterful troubleshooting session by Sean. My system is happy and doing its thing once again. Thanks Sean!
